MP Quota for Admission in KVs โ Is the MP Quota Coming Back? On March 10, 2025, a starred question was raised in the Lok Sabha by Shri Ramprit Mandal regarding the potential reintroduction of the Member of Parliament (MP) quota for admissions in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs). In response, Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan stated that KVs primarily serve the educational needs of transferable Central Government employees and their wards. The MP quota had been withdrawn to maintain a healthy Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) and ensure quality education, aligning with the National Education Policy, 2020. Currently, there are no plans to reinstate the MP quota.

MINISTER OF EDUCATION

(a) to (c) A statement is laid on the Table of the House.
******
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 159 RAISED BY SHRI RAMPRIT MANDAL, HONโBLE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT ANSWERED ON 10.03.2025 REGARDING โRESUMPTION OF MP QUOTA FOR ADMISSION IN KVsโ.
(a) to (c) Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence & Para-Military personnel, Central Autonomous Bodies, Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) by providing a common programme of education throughout the country.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has withdrawn some of the special provisions {including quota for Honโble Members of Parliament (MP)} which were beyond the sanctioned class strength and impacting the learning of the students. These quotas were over and above the sanctioned class strength and hence were done away with in order to bring in qualitative changes to the system by maintaining a healthy Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) and to achieve desired learning outcomes in alignment with the vision of National Education Policy, 2020.
At present, there is no proposal under consideration of the Government to re-introduce the Honโble MP quota for admission in KVs.
