EMPLOYMENT PROVISIONS FOR MEDAL-WINNING ATHLETES
1112. SHRI SANJEEV ARORA:
Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the existing provisions for employment of athletes who win medals in prestigious events such as the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Gamesอพ
(b) whether there are any measures in place to ensure that these athletes receive employment opportunities;
(c) whether athletes who have won medals in Olympics, Asian and other major international games in the past, but have not received employment benefits can be considered for inclusion under existing schemes; and
(d) the steps being taken to extend due benefits to the athletes who were previously left out?
ANSWER

(a) to (d): The recruitment of meritorious sports persons against sports quota vacancies in Central Government Offices is done in accordance with the consolidated instructions issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoP&T) vide their O.M No. 14034/01/2013-Est(D) dated 3rd October, 2013 (further consolidated vide OM dated 18.11.2022 and 04.03.2024). These instructions are available at https://doptcirculars.nic.in.
Also, under scheme for Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons, the retired sportspersons who have won medals in Olympics, Asian and other major international games are given monthly pension ranging from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 20,000. The details of the Scheme are available at https://yas.nic.in.
Further, the Government has launched RESET (Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training) Programme which aims at empowering retired sportspersons who have played for the country and brought immense laurels to the nation. The programme supports retired athletes on their career development journey by empowering them with the necessary knowledge and skills and making them more employable.
