WORDPRESS: 1
  • Railways claim of allotting lower berths to senior citizens in the computerized reservation system is only a gimmick. Recently I booked a ticket to Chennai for myself (62 years) and my mother (85 years) in AC 2 by charminar express. At the time of booking it showed 12 available berths and I opted lower berth for my mother. But when the reservation process was completed, I got one upper berth and side upper for my mother. It didn’t show any message saying Lower berth not available. The computer thought that an eighty five old lady can climb 5 feet and sleep. Hence it allotted upper berth. This clearly shows the computer system is not programmed properly. It is just an idiot box. In the era of artificial intelligence, our railways information system is still in primitive stages. It is only luck if any senior citizen gets lower berths. This has happened to me 3-4 times.
