Revised Rates of ceiling of Tenure Allowance upon Dearness Allowance being raised by 50%: Railway Board Order

In light of a recent enhancement of 50 percent of Dearness Allowance (DA) to the Basic Pay, the Ministry of Railways has proposed to revise the rates of Tenure Allowance for Officers of Organized Group ‘A’ Services. This decision, effective from January 1, 2024, will affect the following: The ceiling of Tenure Allowance has been increased to Rs. 11,250 per month by 25%.

Raising the amount proportionally is done in accordance with the recommendation of the 7th CPC which has been accepted by the Government of India as stated in the recent notification from the Railway Board. Consequent upon the above mentioned changes, the following revised rates have been notified for officers appointed as Deputy Directors, Joint Directors and Directors in the office of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Railway Board.

The announcement references two previous Railway Board orders: RBE No. 181/2017 & 182/2017 which prescribed initial allowances under Tenure Allowance on the basis of 7 CPC & RBE No. 26 /2024 related earlier DA adjustments.

Revised Allowance Rates: As stated above the DA is scaled up to 50% of Basic Pay and new ceiling maximum limit of Tenure Allowance set at Rs 11,250/- per month.

Effective Date: It is important to note that these new rates shall have effect from the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2024.

Continuity of Previous Conditions: As previously highlighted, all other conditions provided in the earlier RBE orders numbers 181/2017 and 182/2017 shall apply unchanged.

The revision is meant to grant the Organised Group ‘A’ Services officers some financial ease and provide them appropriate support in accordance with the inflation and cost of living indice.
