Sub: Decriminalization of Section 144(2) of Railways Act, 1989.

Please find enclosed herewith bilingual copy of Gazette Notification S.O. No. 825(E) dated 21.02.2024 published in “the Gazette of India” which may be read with entry number 27 of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023 (18 of 2023), which is as under:-

In section 144, for sub-section (2), the following sub-section shall be substituted, namely:-

“(2) No person shall be permitted to beg in any railway carriage or upon any part of the railway.”

NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 21st February, 2024

S.O. 825(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by for sub-section (2) of section 1 and pursuant to section 2 of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023 (18 of 2023) (hereafter in this notification referred to as the said Act), the Central Government hereby appoints the 1st day of March, 2024 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act, in so far as it relates to serial number 27 and the entries thereto in the Schedule to the said Act relating to the Railway Act, 1989 (24 of 1989), shall come into force.
