7th Pay Commission: Panel members likely to debate on raising minimum salary

New Delhi, June 18: The Seventh Pay Commission panel members who submitted its final recommendation are likely to debate on raising minimum salary of central government employees. This could be a good news for the central government employees as the empowered group of secretaries headed by Cabinet Secretary, is said to have recommended raising the minimum wage along with the fitment factor.

Earlier there were reports, that the starting salary of government employees is expected to be around Rs 23,000 up from Rs 18,000 as recommended by panel led by A K Mathur.

Today there are reports that the 7th Pay Commission will soon become a reality in next 15 days as the Union Cabinet has to take a final call on it. A 13-member Committee of Secretaries led by Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha was scheduled to submit its final report on the recommendations proposed by the commission today. After the bill is approved the proposed hike salaries of central government employees will be credited on their account before August 1. 

The government has also decided to pay six months arrears to employees in one shot in October.

There are around 47 lakh central government employees eagerly and more than 52 lakh pensioners are eagerly waiting for the significant increase in their monthly take away. The hike was also promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during bis 2014 Lok Sabha campaign. There are also indications that with the hiked salaries the government will also pay six months arrears in one shot, in October.

According to a source, the government will go by the recommendations made by secretaries panel. On Wednesday a number of paramilitary chiefs held meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss issues related to the 7th Pay Commission report submitted by the panel recently.
