The bill to amend the Constitution to provide impediment free reservation in promotion to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was passed by the Rajya Sabha on 17/12/2012. However, the said bill could not be considered and passed in the Lok Sabha and the bill lapsed on the dissolution of the 15th Lok Sabha. The matter is under examination of the Government.

Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government is considering any proposal regarding reservation and reservation in promotion and if so, the details thereof and the time by which the same is likely to be implemented; and
(b) the time by which the Government is likely to bring in a Bill in this regard and present it to Parliament?

(a) and (b): The bill to amend the Constitution to provide impediment free reservation in promotion to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was passed by the Rajya Sabha on 17/12/2012.
