BOOKING CLERKS FOR E CATEGORY RAILWAY STATIONS

Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) the details of the criteria laid down for classification of railway stations along with the number of ‘E’ category railway stations in the country and the method adopted for sale of tickets at such stations;
(b) whether the Railways propose to appoint booking clerks for ‘E’ category railway stations;
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor, zone-wise; and
(d) the time by which the aforesaid booking clerks will be appointed at such railway stations?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2314 BY SHRI FEROZE VARUN GANDHI TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 24.07.2014 REGARDING BOOKING CLERKS FOR ‘E’ CATEGORY RAILWAY STATIONS
(a): The criteria laid down for classification of railway stations in Indian Railways is as under:-

Non-suburban stations with an annual passenger earning of more than Rs. 60 crores.

Non-suburban stations with an annual passenger earnings of Rs. 8 crores and upto Rs 60 crores.

B

I. Non suburban stations with an annual passenger earnings between Rs. 4 crores and Rs. 8 crores.
II. Stations of tourist importance or an important junction station (to be decided by General Manager).

C
|
All suburban stations.
|
D
|
Non suburban stations with passenger earnings between Rs. 60 lakhs and Rs.4 crores.
|
E
|
Non suburban stations with earnings less than Rs.60lakhs.
|
F
|
Halts.
|
At present, there are 4158 ‘E’ category stations. The sale of tickets at ‘E’ category stations is done through the computerized Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) and the tickets are issued by Station Masters/Booking Clerks.
(b) to (d): With a view to facilitate the Station Masters in concentrating on train operations and also for improving the dispensing of tickets, it has been decided to appoint Station Ticket Booking Sewaks (STBS) at ‘E’ category stations as a pilot project. So far, Station Ticket Booking Sewaks(STBSs) have already been appointed at about 100 ‘E’ category stations.
