DEFENCE PERSONNEL DURING NATURAL CALAMITIES

Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the defence personnel are deployed for providing succor during natural calamity and distress;
(b) if so, the details thereof during each of the last three years and the current year; and
(c) if so, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER
MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI A.K. ANTONY)
(a) Yes, Madam.
(b) & (c): Army Side Succour: Providing medical aid, evacuation of affected people to safe areas, transportation of relief material, establishment of relief camps, construction and repair of roads and bridges, and maintenance of essential services.
Air Side Succour: Providing Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel, transport and helicopter air crew, ATC, Met, Garuds (IAF Special Forces) and other technical staff supporting the rescue operations.
Naval Side Succour: Relief and Rescue by Indian Naval teams during floods & Cyclone.
Details regarding Defence personnel deployed during each of the last three years and the current year as in Annexure.
