Sub: Adoption of New School Uniform design in Kendriya Vidyalayas from the academic session 2012-13- reg.
Sir/Madam,
1. It is a matter of great pride that the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has emerged over the years as a pace setter in the field of school education catering to the needs of about 10.7 lakh boys and girls studying in various classes from classes I-XII across the country and abroad.
2. KVS is completing 50 years of its glorious existence and on the eve of its golden jubilee, KVS would like to introduce its new uniform pattern for the KV students from the academic session 2012-13.
3. The present uniform design has been in vogue since the very inception of KVS in 1963. With the view to remain contemporary and to provide a unique identity to its students, all the same, keeping the comfort, the cost and the availability factors, the new uniform has been designed in collaboration with NIFT, New Delhi. The Board of Governors in their 92nd meeting held on 18th May 2012 has approved of the adoption of a new uniform design for the KVS.
The details of the new uniform Pattern are attached as Annexure-I.
4. It is informed that the photo album of the new uniform design and the swatch file is enclosed for your reference. Further the proto-type of uniforms is also available on the KVS website (www.kvsangathan.nic.in). You may give wide publicity to this matter and inform the parents, students and all other stakeholders orally and in writing. Ample time and guidance may be provided to the parents for getting the uniforms ready.
5. As informed vide circular No.11029/27/2011 KVS(Hq)(Acad.) dt. March 1, 2012, the old and new uniforms may continue to be used simultaneously during the transition period for II to XI. The old ones may be weaned out of use gradually over a period of 2 years i.e. by July 2014. The parents of class I students may be instructed to get the uniform stitched for their wards as per the new uniform design. Students of class XII shall continue with the existing uniform if they so desire as they will be passing out at the end of this academic year.
6. Consequent to the implementation of the new uniform policy, Article 92 (C) of Education (2006 edition) stands amended.
This circular may be widely disseminated amongst all concerned.

These days Repo of the school matters more than education.I think new school uniforms will definately help it.
Why nobody is talking about the unnecessary cost impact on the parents. Not all the parents can afford any amount of money on kids ,just compare the school fees which is perfect so that all the class of students can afford it …why the NIFT designers have not thought about the affordability part .

Not seems to be uniform at all but fency dress perticularly for girls. It would be better to replace the white shirt, salwar and socks of old uniform.
except senior girls rest of the design is good.i suggest retaining the salwar in grey with normal length kurta and making the dupatta optional or having a waistcoat like the winter version of it with trousers[though the waistcoat can be totally scrapped because for people who do not like kurta without dupatta the waistcoat will hardly be more acceptable and for those who don't mind it will hardly care for the waistcoat]

No one would like to wear that. The fashion designers are merely Idiots. Uniform must be cool so that the students feel proud and confident of themselves and their school. Not like if someone sees them and says there comes an idiot. The pants for boys should be narrower enough so that we must remain comfortable but too much. The colors are so disturbing and dull, they must have chosen bright or cool colors. Especially the shirts are the most bad.
Hello! Have some manners , you cant call them stupid. They have a good job Except for the waistcoat for senior girls. You want the uniform to be cool. What do u expect from them? You want them to give u hip hop costumes so that u look more idiotic. I think the jackets r really cool. I like it but some people keep finding faults in others and i think u r one of them.

Among everything that has been changed, the most disappointing uniform is of senior girls… even an American would be sensible enough that KURTA and TROUSERS are horrible together.. Feeling lucky to be in 12th… cz I won't have to be one of those laughing stocks…

THE NEW DRESS CODE IS DISGRACEFUL, ANNOYING AND WHAT NOT? IT DOES'NT EVEN LOOK LIKE A UNIFORM. I THINK NIFT DELHI SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN FOR SUCH AWFUL CREATION. LOOKING AT OUR UNIFORMS, I BET NO OTHER SCHOOL WOULD GIVE THE CONTRACT AND SPEND MANY BUCKS FOR WORSE.

NIFT has not done a good job. The old uniform though conservative in design was elegant and affordable.

The summer uniform of senior girls is just horrible. It could be simple long shirts or short kurtis with pants. the waist-coat is awful. If waist coat was to be added, it could be long as in winter uniform.
