CGHS Employees demand more patient care allowance

Employees of Central Government Health Scheme held a one-hour protest in front of CGHS headquarters demanding doubling of patient care allowance. They also called for a march to parliament on July 27.

“Under the Sixth Central Pay Commission, all allowances were doubled, except for PCA. We are demanding it to be doubled and become a part of our salary,” said Jaidev, president, All India CGHS Employees’ Association.
The employees also demanded jobs on compassionate grounds for family members of the deceased employees. Five per cent of the openings are reserved for this category of job seekers. No appointment on this ground has happened since 2009.
“Nearly 1,100 posts are vacant all over India in CGHS. Of 75 people seeking jobs on compassionate grounds, at least 55 will get,” said Jaidev.
Delhi has 700 vacancies while more than 50 family members are asking for a post.
Simultaneous demonstrations were held in 20 cities, including Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Allahabad, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Kanpur, Meerut, Guwahati, Nagpur and Thiruvananthapuram.
Other demands included restructuring of cadre for better efficiency of servicers, a key recommendation of the sixth CPC, Rs 3,000 per annum for uniform, and filling up of all vacant posts.
