Subject: Medical Reimbursement at CGHS Rates for Cataract Operations Performed in Private Hospitals
Respected Sir,
Bharat Pensioners Samaj, the largest umbrella organization of pensioners in the country, seeks your kind attention to a pressing issue affecting our senior citizens:
Cataract surgery is a common procedure among those aged 60 and above. Currently, more than 7% of our population falls into this age group, and the increasing number of senior and super senior citizens necessitates enhanced medical facilities in their hometowns.
At present, reimbursement of medical expenses for cataract surgery is provided only if the procedure is performed in government hospitals. No reimbursement is applicable for cataract operations conducted in private hospitals, which needs immediate attention and rectification.
Suggestions:
There are limited government hospitals offering cataract surgery facilities in most towns and small cities. Many retired individuals reside in areas where government facilities for cataract surgery are unavailable, leaving them with no option but to seek treatment from private hospitals in their locality.
Senior citizens and super senior citizens are compelled to get treatment from the nearest private hospitals due to the absence of government facilities in their hometowns. Therefore, it is essential that medical expenses for cataract surgery performed in private hospitals be reimbursed at CGHS rates.
This is a crucial need of the hour. Your government is committed to honoring senior citizens, and our respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has guaranteed coverage for senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the PMJAY Ayushman Bharat scheme.
We hope that the government, under the leadership of Hon’ ble Modi Ji, will take suitable action to facilitate medical reimbursement for cataract operations performed in private hospitals.
With regards,
Sincerely yours,
S.C. Maheshwari
Secretary General,
Bharat Pensioners Samaj
